Ego was a Celestial, a primordial and powerful being, and the biological father of Peter Quill. A living planet with a humanoid extension of himself, Ego desired to find meaning and had sought meaning to remake the entire universe via an omnicidal extinction-level event known as the Expansion, with the unwilling aid of Quill to summon all of Ego’s seedlings and terraform both all planets into new extensions of himself which would eradicate trillions of all life within it, leaving only him and Quill all there is. This process, however, required the power of two Celestials together and Ego was not quite powerful enough to fulfill the Expansion alone, so he traveled across the universe from planet to planet impregnating thousands of female humanoid aliens in attempt to procreate new Celestial offsprings, in doing so sired thousands of children. While thousands of his offsprings are scattered across the cosmos, Ego then hired the Yondu Ravager Clan to abduct and transport his offsprings to his planet, generously compensated them until this led Yondu to an exile after violating the Ravager code. When his children failed to inherit the Celestial gene, Ego would kill them all painlessly.
